Treating symptoms is a make up...
65Questions going beyond our Skin.
What is the *skin* representing when looking at the whole human being from a view beyond the physical?
Visiting the profile of a 'skin specialist', this question showed up & I wonder if there is any body who asks & looks for the reason of a skin disease that might lay on another level than the physical when a person with skin problem treated. Just some thoughts: Skin protects, skin covers & hides what is inside, skin is the connection to the outside, skin makes an exchange possible in its function, skin allows to get rid of unwanted & not suitable substances like toxins, skin helps to regulate temperature, skin gives us 'feeling' & so confirms our existence. For sure many skin diseases have their reason coming from outside influences, but what more?
Gabriella D'Anton says:
Just like you said, the skin is an organ of the body (in fact the largest organ of the body). Skin’s functions are very similar to the functions of other organs and do take part in the metabolic process. All the functions you enumerated are true and you are also right to assume that many internal problems will influence the aspect of the skin.
Years ago when the medical profession did not relay so heavily on technology, doctors were looking at a patient’s skin for many signs of problems and were taking clues from skin color (liver related), texture (kidney), dark circle or puffy eyes (ovary connection), breakouts or acne (hormonal imbalance) Rosacea condition (digestive system deficiency).
There is only that much a skin specialist can do without being assisted by a physician and there is only that much a doctor can do without having the cooperation of the patient.
BeiYin: The function of the skin is known and also that the skin reacts when there is an imbalance and the type of skin disease is known connected with an organ. Then of course just treating the skin might eliminate the symptoms but will not reach the deeper level: The organ. Looking at the disease or imbalance of the deeper level we will find out that these are caused by the persons life style, habits, attitude, world view, self image and how this person relates and responds to happenings and situations in daily life. As it is known, stress is causing that disease is developing. Then the question shows up: What is causing the stress and how can one avoid it? Here the doctors can't do anything, they are not even trying, because this would need the cooperation of the patient and the established health system doesn't give this option and opportunity. There is dependency from the professional knowledge in its limitation and the treated person is totally depending on the authority of the professional. It seems they are all stuck in their system.
So back to my initial question:
Is there more to think about?
It is obvious that healing is something more then treating the symptom. Healing would mean to heal the cause of the symptom. It seems that the first reason why an imbalance happens when the individual doesn't find confirmation for ones personality when dealing with ones life, that means with ones surrounding and with oneself. Reality is mostly different than ones expectations, - coming out of ones established images. This is common and also the way people handle this dilemma: By fighting and trying to change what doesn't fit or by ignoring and suppressing what is there. When this is not possible when reality is too dominating and one is dependent in ones actions and situations on what is there, then there is suffering and strong reactions on all levels causing a lot of stress.
What is offered from society?
Society is a complex system that protects itself and gives to its members only what is part of it. There is no creative solution offered and no overview, - no view beyond the established knowledge. What is common available are the many forms of substitutes with al those products that are part of the money making business. No body is educated to deal in a creative way with reality, it is common to use drugs to be able to manage situations and oneself: Coffee, tea, tobacco, alcohol, medication are all legal drugs used daily by the majority of people. That is a tragic-comical happening, when knowing that it would be easy to avoid when one just would look at the root cause of the stress!
What can be done?
As a professional taking care of the skin of people and knowing that what shows up on the skin level is just the disaster people are trying to manage within themselves, then this care taker might be in a serious conflict. Talking to the clients and telling them that the cause for their health problem comes from their 'way of relating to life' and that they need to take self responsibility would not be possible because that's not what people want. They want to get rid of the disturbing ugly thing and that's for what they pay the professional. Period!
So being the professional you know that treating the skin without being able to do anything about the cause, is using just make up on this person! You don't feel comfortable with it, but what can you do?
I have a similar situation when writing and posting it to public places like here in HupPages. Nobody really wants to know what I'm writing about. There is hardly any response and my questions find no answers. I might think that my doing doesn't make sense. Well, it migth be, but I do what feels right to me and I express myself out of my desire to share. I have made the experience when I healed myself from Fibromyalgia and from an inguinal hernia, that bringing oneself back into balance, makes ones healing possible. I found out the best ways for this and I like to spread this information without any other motivation than to help people. That they don't waste their energy any longer turning around themselves and their health and other problems - suffering so much from all these, but going to the root cause and that is the way to relate to life and to respond to it so that it becomes a learning, growing and healing process. My intention can have success or not, that might not be the most important. Essential is, that my *energy* I am presenting in contact with people, is the result of my own growing and healing. Then this will have an impact on people. Then they might overcome their resistance and open themselves at least in so far, that they ask questions and search for an answer. But now not following any system or authority, but their own intention and intuition out of their own responsibility!
How can we continue creatively to find an answer?
I don't know yet the possibilities of this place. I am just exploring and I hope that there are other people here so that we come together. Not necessarily for a 'brain storm', but we can sit quietly under the cyber fige tree, having the space to express ourselves...

Don't you think that the origin of sorrow comes from Self-identification with a particular body/mind known as the person?...By identifying ourselves with the limited and superficial is naturaly painful, as we sense a feeling of not being complete. We alienate ourselves from the rest of creation by separating ourselves from it. Does this not create fear of loss and desire to fulfil this feeling of lack or insuffiency? Are not both states of fear and desire painful?...I can see what you say as true only if one has already mistaken themselves to be what they are not....but "the reaction from the individual" as you say is merely an automatic response based on habit. The source of pain must surely come before a reaction, as a reaction is a result of pain?
I don't believe the false can ever pruduce happiness or peace. Temporary satisfaction yes, but as nothing is permanent the state of pain is bound to return. We go round in circles repeating our mistakes simply because of ignorance. Ignorance of our true nature and ignorant of environment. Everything we have backwards. Contradictions are the mark of the false. Our actions constantly betray our beliefs. The result is conflict and despair.I know you know all this Beiyin but I feel you may not have reached the root of the misunderstanding. If my assumption is true, it may explain many disappointments in your own personal journey? Is not the very search for pleasure the cause of pain and because we are in pain we seek pleasure?
Sorry for taking the tone of an intellectual. My temperament is scientific and analytical by nature.
I make no claims of being beyond the ego. I am fully aware that I have not gone beyond the tyranny of the mind. I am walking the path as I imagine you are.
To be identified with your mind and emotions is a painful state. Both you and I recognise this. Therefore because we are in pain we seek pleasure. A happy man does not seek happiness.....the very search for material or sensual satisfaction proves that we are feeling a deep sense of insuffiency in our lives, and that is painful. Disappointment itself is a subtle form of pain. Pain is anything that disturbs our natural sense of peace. I am not talking about physical pain such as when you put your hand in a fire, but mental pain which is totally irrational and unnecessary such as worry and anxiety about a non existent future, or the feeling of guilt and regret in the past that is no longer real. This is what I meant by psychological pain. No idea what you mean by me not touching the root of the problem seen as we both admit that identification with a particular and therefore limited body/mind construct is the cause of suffering.

What in your opinion is the root cause of mental suffering? Can you tell me what psychological pain actually is and where it originates?
